Redundant ControlNet to Foundation Fieldbus H1
The CN2FFR provides a fast and integrated solution for adding Foundation Fieldbus devices to any Logix platform.
Foundation Fieldbus is a convenient 2-wire instrument bus and a popular choice in process control. The network is based on the IEC 61158 specification and operates at 31.25 KBits/s supplying power and communication on the same cable. The 1788-CN2FFR device is a self contained, Panel and DIN-rail mountable device, linking a ControlNet network to one H1 segment. The module can connect and power up to 16 field devices removing the need for external power conditioners.
The CN2FFR supports multiple levels of device and media redundancy. Two physical H1 ports are provided, each with their own internal power conditioners and protection. Both ports form part of the same logical H1 segment and can be used in various redundant topologies, including:
- Split bus
- Dual media (Requires Hiprom's PAR-JB junction box)
- Ring (Requires Hiprom's PAR-JB junction box)
The 1788-CN2FFR supports ControlNet Media redundancy.
Redundancy (Master Device)
The CN2FFR can be configured to run in a multi-master configuration. Thus allows two, identically configured, CN2FFR modules to be connected on the same H1 network. The linking devices effectively share the bus, with both providing power and transferring data between the FF field devices and the Logix controller.
Integration into RSLogix5000 is seamless when making use of the modules' Add-On-Profiles (AOPs), and the process variables of each field device appear in engineering units without any required user logic. The AOP generates the fixed data structures for each device which inludes 8 Input Process Variables (PVs), 8 Output PVs and 8 PVs for communication between field devices on the network for "Control-on-the-Wire". Additional PV statuses and diagnostic information is also available. All network and field device configuration is done within the RSLogix5000 environment with no external software or node licensing required. . The AOP can automatically identify field devices and automatically config them to the default settings. An intuative graphical interface is also available for advanced configuration of the network and field devices.
FDT/DTM technology is supported allowing direct access to the field devices diagnostics and parameters using an FDT frame such as FTAssetCentre. In addition to this, a field device DTM can be launched from within the RSLogix5000 environment using Rockwell's FDT-ThinFrame technology. FDT-ThinFrame also allows a device DTM to be launched from within the FTViewSE HMI, allowing the operator a graphical view into the state and diagnostics of the field device.
The CN2FFR provides a number of invaluable diagnostic parameters further simplifying the commissioning of large networks. These include instrument specific diagnostics as well as network diagnostics, such as: (All basic diagnostic information is available in the input assembly.)

Commissioning is simplified by onboard advanced diagnostics, including a node specific H1 bus oscilloscope trace which can be viewed within the RSLogix5000 AOP.
The EN2FFR contain the Fieldbus Foundation Registered FF H1 Stack developed by Hiprom / Rockwell Automation.
